The knights were created during the reign of King Aldous. They are warriors of the highest caliber, and usually only dispatched on special missions.
During the War of Succession, many noblemen were killed, leaving behind widows and orphans. The young sons of lords who died for the losing side were captured by Aldous' forces and taken to a remote ruined fortress and trained under brutal circumstances. Most of the children died of starvation, exhaustion, sickness, and injury; those who survived grew up to become the first knights.
